They do the heavy lifting in polymerization, but they’ve always had a bit of a reputation for being high-maintenance and a headache to dispose of. We decided to change that. Our goal was simple: make them last longer and stop them from being an environmental liability.
Why do these things actually burn out?
Usually, it comes down to two things: the electrodes wearing out or the mercury vapor pressure getting wonky. It’s frustrating because you’re suddenly tweaking your line speed every couple of weeks just to keep the cure rate steady. To fix this, we started using high-purity synthetic quartz. It doesn’t warp when things get hot. We also messed around with the gas mixture inside the tube to stop the electrodes from sputtering. The result? The light stays stable for thousands of hours. You set it, you forget it, and it just works.
Cleaning up the act
The old-school lamps were a nightmare to throw away because of the materials they used. Not great for the planet, and definitely not great for compliance. We’ve swapped those out for cleaner alternatives. We’re thinking long-term here. We built these to take a beating in high-heat environments while keeping that mercury sealed up tight where it belongs.
The practical stuff
The best part is that you don’t need to rip out your entire setup. These are drop-in replacements. They fit the same footprint and work with your current ballasts. Just plug them in and go. There is one catch, though. Because we optimized these for a long life rather than a quick burst of intensity, they take a little longer to warm up. It’s a trade-off. Just make sure you factor in a few extra minutes of warm-up time before you start the belt, so those first few parts don’t end up under-cured.
